2010 Scholarship Application

NORTHEAST RICHLAND LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Northeast Richland Lions Club is pleased to offer our annual scholarships. The scholarship is open to a graduating senior from a local high school who will be attending a college, university, business or trade school during the upcoming fall semester.  The Scholarship Award Letter will be presented at the Lion’s Club Scholarship Day April 27, 2010. All items are weighted on a point system. Below are shown the maximum number of points each area is worth.

 

J.B. Sandlin Scholarship- Directed toward students who have participated in Lion Club Activities or Fund Raisers such as our annual basketball tournament.

 

Jim Pridemore Scholarship-Given to students who have demonstrated community involvement.

 

Charles Brinkley Scholarship- Designed toward students demonstrating the greatest financial need toward higher education.

REQUESTED INFORMATION & DEFINITIONS:

1.      GPA/Ranking: Officially reported GPA and Ranking as of last grading period on the student’s senior year in high school. Please supply a copy of your latest transcript.

2.      Community Service Involvement: A brief narrative, which describes the type and amount of community service projects that the student has been involved with over the past 4 years.  Special emphasis will be placed on the amount of positive impact the student has had on our community.

3.      School Activity Involvement: A brief narrative, which describes the type and amount of involvement regarding extra curricular school-related activities the student has been involved with over the past 4 years.  Special emphasis will be placed on the amount of positive impact the student has had on their school and how they may have been a positive role model to other students.

4.      Financial Need: A brief narrative, which describes why they need financial support for further education.  Applicants to include a list of all scholarships that have previously been awarded indicating the monetary amount of the scholarship, type and sponsor.  A copy of the scholarship award letter will suffice.

 

5.      Recommended by NE Lions Club Member: A reference letter from any Northeast Richland Lions Club member.

 

6.      Leo/Lion Club Involvement: State if you are a Leo or if you are the child of a Northeast Richland Lions Club member. Also write a brief narrative about any of the Lions or Leo projects that you have helped with.

7.      Presentation (to include):
References:
Two letters, one from a teacher and one from someone else, stating why the applicant should receive the scholarship and what difference this individual has made.
The letter of reference will include the name address and phone number of the person used as a reference.
Quality of application: Please follow the guidelines carefully and complete each section. Points will be given based on completeness and thoroughness.
Interview: Finalist will be interviewed by the NE Lions Club Scholarship Committee.

8.      Vision Impaired: Please describe your vision impairment. This does not include the need for corrective lens.

 

 

PROCEDURE FOR SUBMISSION

1.      Student will compile all requested information. Just make sure all the information is included.

2.      The cover page will include the students’ name, address, phone number and high school.  Any university/college/school that the student has applied to and/or has been accepted to should be listed.  A copy of any acceptance letter should be attached.  A copy of any scholarship award letter should be included as well.

3.      Finalist will be required to have a personal interview with the scholarship committee. Be creative in assembling your presentation. You can use photos, make a scrapbook, make a video etc. It is up to you.

 

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION

Deadline for submission is 5 p.m. April 9, 2010.   Late entries will not be allowed nor considered.

 

INFORMATION CONTENT

The content submitted by the student must be truthful, accurate and able to be verified by a reliable source.  Any falsified information will render the student ineligible for consideration.  

 

OUTSIDE ASSISTANCE

Students are fully responsible for the creation of this information and are asked not to acquire or accept outside assistance of any kind.

 

SCHOLARSHIP PAYMENT

The successful candidates will receive the scholarship payment upon receipt of college registration and written notification to the Lions Club. This must happen no later than Oct. 31, 2010 or you risk forfeiture of the scholarship.

 

FINAL DECISION

The decision made by the N.E. Richland Lions Club Scholarship Committee will be final and is non-appealable.
